As for a suspension system, torsion axles use the trailing arms which have a steel bar inside the tube, to resist the wheel movement.
Torsion arm is completely self contained within the axle tube. It attaches directly to the trailer frame using brackets. The torsion axle provides improved suspension characteristics relative to leaf spring axles through the unique arrangement of a steel torsion bar surrounded by four rubber cords encased in the main structural member of the axle beam.
Torsion has below advantages:

2. Offers trailer rigidity as axle is bolted to the trailer directly.
3. Increases handling control in rough roads.
4. Just need to lube bearing. No need other maintenance.
5. Ride height can be easily changed by adjustable torsion bars.
6. Can be use longer time than leaf spring axles.
7. Length can be adjustable by using half-torsion axles, which is perfect for specialized, custom applications.
